I have my fingers crossed for you LS. It is a lot of work keeping a house show ready so I hope you search for a buyer is soon over.

We also hatched all roosters this year so you all get stuck seeing their pictures instead of pullets. :) They are pretty that is for sure...oh and growing like weeds. The grey one has figured out how to operate the rat proof chicken feeder, he likes to sit on the lever mechanism rather than standing.

@Robilyn81 - handsome roo!

@uzisuzuki glad your birds are ok and keep us posted, what do they suggest to do for a roo with scoliosis?

They're looking very handsome!

Not much. He functions normally, he just walks like he's in a Monty Python skit, so there's nothing to treat right now. He's also too old to try to correct it. If he starts to show signs later in life that walking is difficult, I can get him on arthritis meds or euthanise. Kind of a watch & see. I did lower the roost they sleep on just to minize the stress of jumping on his hip joint.

X2 I know @Latestarterhas been hoping to sell for a bit now. If that doesn't work out, have you thought about renting your place? I know being a rental owner has it's con's but given the housing market, I would think for land and rural setting you could get a pretty penny. Just a thought.

Thanks @COChix The rent value is decent/substantial, but I want to move a LONG way away and I've been a long distance landlord before. It is not something I will even consider doing again at this point in my life. That includes turning it over to a management company either. I really need the equity out to set myself up for permanent retirement. I won't get enough to pay cash for a replacement home (that meets my needs/standards). But it will/should eliminate all of my outstanding debt & buy a small enough mortgage payment that I can survive comfortably but not lavishly. I can then work toward eliminating the mortgage faster, and hopefully relax.

You, me, and anyone else who has been around a few moons knows that (it seems) just when you think you've got it all worked out, SOME thing is gonna come up to knock you back down and try to put you back. It seems every time I've gotten ahead, something has happened to put me right back in debt. I really can no longer afford that as I have no desire/intention of going back to punching a time clock. I know "crap happens" and things break/wear out, but I need to plan ahead for those things so they can't put me back in a hole.

My home is now under contract. Est close 9/22. 8 offers submitted. all above listing price. Final accepted was 35K over list. I'm happy, and happy the people who got it, got it. Off to TX tonight to look at 2 properties tomorrow as a replacement for this one. Wish me luck

Did they want the chickens?

Did anyone get rain around the region? I think we've had, as my mother used to say, about 16 drops. Not enough to do much good. At least it looks like we might break the heat wave later this week.

I have a bit of a problem coming up here and I need some advice. One of my chickens is unexpectedly a rooster, which I can't keep. I wish I could! He is so handsome and sweet with the hens. I have had no luck re-homing him. No bites on Craigslist, on here or social media. Wardles aren't taking any roosters right now, and honestly, will they just give them to someone who wants a free dinner? I don't want that, either. I'm a sentimental old biddy!
