Colorado

That's good to know. I was asking because I might have a boy or two that I can't keep in my area. I am trying to be proactive just in case. I'm not against culling it/them, but if I'm able to, I would want to trade for girls of the same age.

I see. I butcher all my extra boys. I only plan to keep roosters that are pure for the blue egg gene (or at least 75% chance they are pure). Butchering isn't fun but if I can handle it just about anyone can. I was very glad to have that meat in the freezer.

I've got my Easter chicks that are about 2 weeks old and another set of eggs in the incubator due to hatch 4/22. I candled the eggs on Sunday and a few were developing but, unfortunately, I think I have another batch with very lower fertility. I'm crossing my fingers for an Ameraucana and a EE cockerel from a green egg to hatch. I hope to have some keeper boys to help increase my fertility. There's just too many girls for one rooster to handle. I'm sure if I hadn't culled Wash at the beginning of the year I would have better fertility but he became such a pain. I think he took after his mother in the attitude department. Plus he only carried one blue egg gene.

Since I don't know yet how many pullets I'll have, I don't have a plan on handling extras. All of last year I only got 3 pullets out of 18 total hatched. I may try to sell some when they reach 6-8 weeks old and I can tell what they are but I just don't know yet.

The ducks love their new pool. It's bigger than the stock tank they had for winter. Unfortunately there's another winter storm warning for tonight so who knows when they will swim again. :barnie

Not totally chicken related (unless you count the porcelain chickens in the picture), but I just got accepted to participate in an Art in the Park with my ceramics work. I wasn’t expecting that because I don’t think my ceramics are that good! LOL That was some pleasant news after the two job denials & crap news from the EEOC I got last week. :)

Cute. Are those octopus tentacles I spy? I'd like to see the full sculpture.

Loveland? I'm there with my espresso trailer.

:barnie Came home to find our neighbor rolling our spare truck tires out into the middle of the field! (Caught her in the act) Apparently she didn't like that they were near her fence/property line, but they were in our yard. So yeah, she came in our yard, took our tires and tried to dump/dispose of them in the open space behind our lots. Ugh. She doesn't like that I have chickens and a firewood pile and yard tools that can be seen from her house. She has said as much before. We try and keep things tidy, but on the plains when you don't have trees, everybody's business becomes everybody's business. I bought 100ft of fencing to expand the run and add a skirt just yesterday, I guess we'll be using that to fully divide our lot from hers first instead. Yes, ideally I would love a 6ft wood privacy fence around our entire property, especially with the coyotes lately, but is not in the budget right now.
