Feeders Supply certainly has a HUGE assortment this week and yes many many many in the 4-7 week range.
Terrible shame that I am full up on birds.

Hi! I’m visiting from the Wyoming thread. I went to Feeders Supply the other day and they do have quite a selection but the conditions that they keep the birds in are not good. I bought a few because I felt so sorry for them but I haven’t ever had birds that smelled that bad ☹️ I gave them a bath as soon as I got home.

That makes me sad. I haven't been there since August to pick up my day olds.
Maybe it is unusually bad since so many are getting BIG.
I can't imagine how hard it would be having weekly shipments coming in and chicks reaching 7+ weeks that are unsold.

I can't defend the condition the chicks are in at the store but for what ever reason, people are just not buying chickens this year. Go to any store and they have sold about 1/4 of their normal. Murdochs in Denver, who sells out of chicks in 2-3 days had 800 chicks last week. Buy 1 get 2 free. Everyone has older chicks they just can't move. Normally by June, I sell upwards of 150 POL pullets. This year I have sold 20. Not doing anymore. In a normal year, I snap up any older chicks to grow out to save a buck or two. Battery brooders are not designed to house chicks past 2-3 weeks. With limited floor space in the store, how do you house the older, taller chicks? Thankfully, you were able to add a few to your flock. What you walked into is not their SOP. You just can't beat the year round availability and selection. I'll be back up there this winter.

Hi all, I'm in Colorado Springs, Colorado and I just ordered some Rhode Island Reds for my backyard. I want to say that this forum has helped me so much in learning what I should do. So thanks to all posters.

We are allowed to have up to 10 hens (no roosters) and I am going to start with 3 and I can't wait until they get here in a couple of weeks. Of course, my co-workers think I am insane.

Oh and by the way, my local newspaper ran a story yesterday on raising chickens and mentioned this site! I was reading on this site way before the article, but it was great to see the mention. I hope the publicity about raising chickens doesn't hurt the cause. Plenty of people expressed surprise that it was allowed within city limits.

Thanks again everyone for all the great information...
I'm in canyon City Colorado we're the same can only have hens no roosters. I have six girls I started out with four they were Rhode Island red and Rhode Island white mixed they work well with the weather in Colorado they are 2 years old I just started 2 years ago last april. This February I bought two more chickens that were a year old this April from a friend in town one is a solid Rhode Island red and the other is a buff they are so precious you will have so much fun I have found that having my coffee with them in the morning and sitting out with my glass of wine in the evening is so relaxing and they're so loving it takes away the anxiety of the day have wonderful fun.

It does seem like a very odd year for chick sales. I was just really surprised that they didn’t have those old chicks on sale just to free up space for the chicks that had just arrived. Maybe it would be worth someone making an offer for the group of them.

Hey CO Peeps! I have a 70 yr old friend that would like to get chickens again. He likes the New Hamps or Barred Rocks. The "old school" chickens.
Does anyone have a lead on some POL or older than heat lamp age?
