Hi everyone,
I posted in the turkey area but wanted to double up and post here on the off chance someone has a turkey hen they could part with. Sadly, my poor girl fell victim to a fox last week, so I now have a guard dog who is doing her best to keep "unfriendlies" away. If no one knows of an available hen perhaps I'll start over with poults this year in hopes of a hen among them. Any advice is welcome!

Wrong kind of quail for me though. Let me know if you see or hear about some jumbo coturnix hens if you can.

Hi jdopler, have you tried Craigslist? There is someone in Hudson that is apparently desperate to get rid of some of the many ducks, geese, chickens, and I think turkeys. They have and I think maybe some younger ones also. But I know there've been a few posts with with turkeys in them. Good luck

I checked with craigslist, (I am addicted actually

) nothing there, or I was too late.. I'll keep checking but if anyone hears more about turkeys, please let me know! I guess as a last resort I'll order come spring and hope to sell what I don't need.

You could also check with Aimee (I-may) at www.manifestedwings.com and see if she has any. I know she had a male or two she was re-homing

Has anyone bought chicks from Fulenwider in Hudson, CO?

I plan to raise day old chicks starting this spring. I want to end up with 6 laying hens (for now). I want to buy my chicks in Colorado so they do not have to hazard the post office in my rural area. I live on 30 acres in the Grand Hogback mountains along the Colorado River - I-70 corridor.

I would like a mix of buff orpingtons, partridge rocks, and silver-laced wyandottes (but I am somewhat flexible). I need girls who can handle the Colorado weather - icy cold days followed by balmy days, followed by windy, followed by scorching dry heat, followed by... - you guys know the drill. I like the looks of these breeds, and want to try a couple of each. My husband, a fly-fishing fanatic, wants to try a few bantam brahmas for fly-tying. (I just found a thread about fly-tying, and will share that with him. He isn't as chicken-crazy as I am -- yet.)

Fulenwider has a nice variety listed on their website, but has not responded to my email inquiry about availability. I will try their phone number one of these days. Does anyone anticipate having the chicks I am looking for in May? I am prepared to do some driving to the Front Range, but am hoping for one-stop chick shopping. Any suggestions for other breeders/hatcheries?

It is very reassuring to have this wealth of information available as I get ready to gather my flock.

Welcome to the CO thread

I've never heard of Fulenwider but maybe somone else has. I've always gotten my chicks from Ideal, Privett (the farm stores get them from Privett around here) or fellow BYCers that have them for sale here or on Craigslist.

Good luck with the hunt hopefully someone here can help.
