The problem with putting quail with chickens is only an issue if your flock is infected with something quail aren't immune to. You might be ok if your new chicks aren't infected. Just watch for signs of swelling around the eyes.

Yeah, for the moment they are all healthy, with the possible exception of the aussie cross. I had to help that one out (yes, i know, no chastising please) and it seems to be spraddle legged (?) can't seem to bring its legs together. I know there's a way to fix this, I just need to look it up, something about a splint of some kind?

Here's a great resource for fixing feet, legs, etc:

Hey guys, just found an injured(what we think is a little hawk) in the middle of the street. Can't fly so we put my coat over it and brought it home. Anyone know of a bird of prey or bird rescue?

Thanks Matthew! My daughter is on her way with the little guy to the Rehab place up in Broomfield. The lady said it was a Kestrel, the smallest falcon. He/she is beautiful!

Hey CC, glad I was able to help

Yeah, I should be more concerned about hawks and be all "grrr, let em die, stupid predators, grrr" but they've left our birds alone, and our birds range over an acre and a half, so really, I figure let live and all

plus, they help keep the prarie rats under control, stupid disease carrying vermin.

Gail, thank you for your help! I went from your link to a thread that showed how to splint using a bandaid, so I'm going to have CJ help me tonight when he gets home

Is anyone in the northern Colorado area interested in a Delaware rooster? He's 19 weeks old, looks pretty good to me (although I'm no authority on Dels), and does a good job of keeping his women in check. I'm looking for $10 or a pullet or two to trade. If interested, shoot me a pm.

Yes, indeedy! Kestrels are beautiful. And they do a good job with mice control.

I figure I need all the predators I can get. Everyone in our area hates coyotes with a passion and they are hunted mercilessly, but we offer them haven and in return, they keep our raccoon and skunk populations quite low.
