We are in the SE Springs area.

All we got was wind in the Midway area.

I am in the northwest side of colorado springs

Wow, I didn't know there were so many people with chickens nearby! We should all get together and swap stories

We were out at Bristol brewery when the storm started up and the hail was deafening in that big open building. I fretted about the girls the whole time because they were out in the tractor, which my friends thought funny - but they fretted about their dogs too! The worst of it was over by the time we got home, but our poor plants got pretty beaten up by the hail. I put an indoor fig outside to get some sun yesterday, and there are pea-sized holes clean through some of the leaves. I had nothing to worry about with the girls though. Their tractor has a small covered area on one end, and they were sound asleep inside! We're supposed to get it again today so I think they will just stay in the coop after lunch. Poor things will not be happy but at least it will keep them dry and safe.


Dennarahl, I'm sorry to hear about your poor girl. If you are anywhere near the Springs I do know of a pet sitter who will take care of chickens. I bought my chick run from her and met some of her birds so I know she could do it!

When I put my ducks in their special made, fancy run..we lost a duck 3 days later. (something liked the duck's head...better than the duck) The remaining duck was pacing the fence to the RIR run he/she was raised with so bad that there was a wore down path. I could not calm it down.

So I put the duck in with the RIRs ........ now we call him/her Chuck! It thinks it is a chicken!! Goes in with the RIRs and comes out with the RIRs!! Even does the wing stretch/strut in the morning when it comes out....just like the chicks!!

Funny to watch!!

My chicks have grown up with the ducks. It was the ducks that taught the pullets how to eat and drink. And the flock follows the ducks all over the yard. When the ducks get into their water tub and splash and play; the pullets are usually right there next to the tub, getting wet with the ducks.

Your duck thinks he's a chicken...my chickens think that they ae ducks.

Widefield...... (After work means in 15 minutes, or at 2 PM!

Hopefully the weather will let me get something done this afternoon so I can get these chickens out of the garage...

Hi All,
we finished our super protected run and put the coop in. My girls have been in it for the last 3 days and just aren't coming out. I think I need to train them how to use the little ladder under the coop. But when I do hand carry them out, they seem soo nervous and are uber excited to go back inside their coop. Any suggestions? I sat outside on monday for an hour and a half with them while they were outside and they congregated under/around my legs. I think they don't know what to do with their freedom!

I think it will just take time, mine are slow to explore there freedom when I put them outside. Now inside is a different matter, I have two of them trying to escape every time I open there cage.

It would fun to get together and maybe even set up a little network for checking on each others chickens when we go out of town.

Glad everyone is okay. We had an awful storm here (I'm between Parker and Elizabeth). I watched a couple clouds rotate and turn into funnels, then suddenly everything was gone, ZERO visibility. I couldn't see my front porch, couldn't see out of any window on any side of my house. Then the hail started, worst hail I've ever heard and I'm from the midwest! Husband and I took cover in the basement with our dog, cat and the five chicks for a while. I am SO glad my girls are still too little to be outside! I would have lost my mind if they were out in that storm.

We had a "drift" of hail on our deck about a foot tall. We tried to go out around 10pm when it was all over, to let our dog out, but the hail against the back door was too heavy and we couldn't open it. Our house is pretty damaged. The garden is completely destroyed, along with all of my rose bushes and plants. The coop that we just finished building actually looks pretty good! It fared much better than our house, which is missing a lot of paint and chunks of wood. It looks like a termite the size of a horse came along and chewed on my house. I'm pretty sad about that since we've only lived here for about two months, but it could have been much worse, and I'm grateful everyone's okay. Poor little chicks were pretty scared!!
