Was sitting in pen #2 this afternoon, and hadone of the pullets jump up on my knee.

That is such a cool looking bird.

Cruddy day today. Found one of my week olds (or half of her) being carried around by one of my hens in the chicken yard. Not sure who actually killed it but the Mama that hatched her was pretty lax on watching her and I should of went with with my gut this morning and took her away from her

Then I went out to do one of my many daily checks on the duck hens sitting and my Rouen Lucy wasn't there ( she was a couple earlier today) and one of her eggs were broke. Searched and searched. Something had drug her out to the field and ate everything but her head and wings. Not blood or anything. Heartbroke and tired of crying. I'm pretty attached to my ducks, geese, and many of my chickens. What would eat all but her head and wings. In the middle of the day...

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Its hard to loose an animal, and its harder still to loose one that has become both a pet and a companion.

Thank you all. And yes it does suck big time. We have coyotes, usually every night they're out yapping and hollerin at the tree line of our property and the Ducks Unlimited property. Haven't seen them during the day but have woke up to them cornering one of my dogs this last winter after I let them out to do their thing. Let them out, layed back down to wait for the scratch at the door(usually a few minutes in the bitter cold night) and Charlie started barking his head off, I grab the flashlight and go running out, 2 of them were just feet away from Jack our one eyed guy. He was just cowering in the fence corner. And then other times walking out by the barn with their green eyes glowing from the flashlight. They used to run when I start yelling at them to GET! GO ON! But now they just slowly walk away while staring at me.

My husband and I were just talking about that yesterday, whether the critters from up and over there in the burn would make their way over to us. I did see 3 deer yesterday. I'm hoping no preds come down. Stupid coyotes are stressful enough.

We might be relocating to Colorado (Denver area) and we have 2 d'uccle bantam chickens, a hen and a rooster - I'm wondering if anyone knows any surrounding areas where our chickens would be allowed. They sleep inside the house :) any info is greatly appreciated! I wouldn't mind extending the flock if these areas are chicken friendly.

Hope you find somewhere that suits your needs. I am in rural El Paso county (Colorado Springs region) and where we are there are no restrictions.

i'm in loveland and our city ordinance states that we can have as many chickens as we like as long as they don't become a nuisance( it does not state anything about not having roosters.)
Fort collins is allowed to have 6 I think

I'm not sure what areas allow roosters. I'd look up the cities you are thinking of moving to and check it out.

Where are you moving from?
