Colorado

Where are you moving from?

We're moving from south Florida-will be a big change!! We have flexibility as far as the exact area we can move to. My biggest factor is it just has to be a place that is chicken (including rooster) friendly, as I would never leave them behind! And also I'd like to of course get more. As it is, my neighbor thinks my parrot is the one crowing LOL and they think its so funny so they havent complained. But, when we relocate I Just dont want to have to worry about it. I've been looking into different towns and stuff but then thought I might find out more on here. :) plus, everyone I've met who has chickens is just so friendly!!
It will probably be about a year until we move so I have plenty of time.

Alot of where you can live depends on what you're willing to do for a commute. In the Denver metro area it will be hard to find a place where Roosters are ok. You would have to find somewhere that is agriculture zoned. Or you can extend your commute a bit and live more rural. To the east of Denver on I-70 is Watkins, Bennett, Strasburg and Byers. They're all within an hour of downtown Denver on most days. We live in Strasburg and its 45 minutes to downtown. Other places to look in the one hour to denver circle are Elizabeth, Golden, Erie, Frederick, some of Boulder. We moved out here about 10 months ago, and have loved every minute. Our criteria for distance was 45 minutes to Denver, because our suburban house was that far and the hubby was ok with it. So we went as far as we could. I know out here off of I-70 chickens are allowed for the most part. The only restrictions tend to appear in the town propers, but they're really small towns.

We might be relocating to Colorado (Denver area) and we have 2 d'uccle bantam chickens, a hen and a rooster - I'm wondering if anyone knows any surrounding areas where our chickens would be allowed. They sleep inside the house

any info is greatly appreciated! I wouldn't mind extending the flock if these areas are chicken friendly.

Denver just passed a resolution in the last year or so....they would be welcome in Denver. But I don't believe that they allow roosters.

Wow that's great information! Thank you! I haven't chosen a place to work yet (I'm a teacher so I can be flexible if need be) and don't mind a commute if it means I can have my chickens!
I will keep these on my list! Thanks so much!

White Pekins. We're relocating my pair to a pen for themselves so they can nest in peace. They're with the chickens now, and seeming to be a "private" couple. They should be in their new pen in the next couple of days. Had a few mates with chicks last year, but the coyotes got to them when they were free ranging. Broke my heart. This is the only pair that got away.

Anybody know of a reputable breeder that maintains Golden Cuckoo Marans??? Shoot me a PM if you have any information...thank you very much.

...Not for this year...but for next spring.

I'm sure that I'll be adding a few to my flock at that point.

I would look at the Frank town, Elizabeth area. It is about midway between Denver and Castle Rock. Douglas school district is a good one to work for, better pay and you can work in Highlands Ranch/Castle Rock area that is about 40 min away but not too much traffic in between.
