At least the wind blows the moths away........

We have central air, and it is usually no warmer than 75 in the house. We use the fans inside to keep things circulated.

Joe, how are those fluffy orps doing in this heat?
I wish it blew the moths away here. They're not as bad as they were a month ago, we're getting to the point where we can keep them out of the house again. I am so glad we have central air. I would melt without it.

We rigged some shade for our girls and they don't use it. One thing we made is a cheap roll up shade that is screwed to the geese's wacky shack and a pallet lean-to so that it's parallel to the ground. It lets through too much light. It's better than nothing, but they have better under the coop. Another attempt is some heavy felt fabric stapled to two pallet lean-tos, and sometimes they use it. Since I started watering the fabric they use it more often, but they still prefer under the coop. Today, I'm watering the ground every so often in the shade to see if that helps them out. I'm also putting frozen water bottles under the coop for them as well as in the water. I also have a mister out for the girls, but they really don't like it. I'd stop using it, but the geese like it. I'm really thankful for the wind we ALWAYS have out here, it helps keep the shade we do have cooler.

I'm not ready for a whole summer like this. I don't handle heat very well, but I can't avoid it now with my girls.

we have a couple mist hoses that my dh used to use for work. This yr he only needs 1 so i took the other, hung it on the run with christmas light hangers and can hook the hose to it. It doesn't spray a ton of water, so i'm not increasing the bill a ton but it provide them with a nice, light, cool mist for the time i have it on. I also have their run in the shade and it stays that way almost the entire day. The back half has a silver tarp on it to help protect the food from the rain (if we get any this yr) and also provide them with a little shelter from wind if they want some.

I've been giving them frozen fruit/veggies as treats the last couple wks and putting large chucks of ice in their water on the really hot days.
