Colorado

On Saturday as previously posted, I got the nest boxes built for the big hen house. That evening, I went back out and built the large long roost. no photos yet. It is about 36 inches above the top of the foundation, which we still need to fill in with dirt and bedding when the time comes;and has three 2 x 4s, just under 12 feet long.

We also took some time and banded all the birds, (except the pullet who died yesterday, and the turkeys). Then we did a preliminary flock assessment. We still need to drop 2 Dom pullets and 1 Dom cockerel from the final flock, but that will give us 6 dominique pullets and 3 or 4 EE pullets left over (there is one that I think is a Cockerel, and Beth thinks is a Pullet). From those, 2 Dom pullets will go to Rock Ledge Ranch, and 2 Dom and 2 EE pulets for Sharon. So after those 6 go away, we will have 2 Dominique pullets, 2 Dominique Cockerels (good breeder line) and one or two EE pullets available should anyone want one. The Dom and EE pullets will be $5.00 each, the Dominique cockerels will be $10.00 each to local BYC people, u-pick-up. One of the Dominique cockerels has a slight wry comb, which is of no concern if you are not going to breed to APA standard. If they are not purchased, they will eventually go to the freezer for my family. Let me know if any of you are interested in the left-over birds.

This afternoon if the weather cooperates, I plan on putting in the remaining roost in the hen house.

we'll take the EEs.

My husband hates sand. :( He would not allow it.

He may if you drag him someplace that uses it and he can see how much easier it is in some circumstances to work with.

I honestly thought I'd hate using it too but then the dust just became too much. Perhaps in less humid climates, wood shavings don't create as much dust. I even bought the higher quality shavings to try to keep the dust down. At my place, to the east of 24 in Falcon, it just wasn't ideal.

Photos!?!?!

AAAAaaaaa, gimmie some time....
As I read your thread...I notice you are quite busy! DW and I have been quite bust also. I will have her get some photos soon. I do the posting, but I am not allowed to have a camera on site, so she has to send them to me so I can post them.
I'll try to give a brief update:
I made my first coop....you've all seen those on my coop thread. Then I built the "A" frames, made the runs and got the chicks outside. Now I have added another coop/run at the end of the "A" frames and a duck pen between the first coop/run and the "A" frame coop/run.
Well, this weekend, I purchased a 8 x 40 construction trailer (at a good price) that was suppose to be the new coop and rabbit house......NOT! DW says no way, too good to use for chickens!! Well, I also happen to get a barn/stall building given to me the same time I found the trailer. So, a friend and I took the barn down on Friday....and rebuilt the 8 X 16 storage shed on Sunday...(Picked up the trailer and my hogs on Saturday) in front of the middle "A" frame. The large coop is going to replace the "A" frames...so I can put all my girls together.... (means I have to relocate 3 Beautiful roos!!)
So, to sum it up, any pics now....will be different in a week....except the new chicks! And these Dorkings look exactly like Welsummer chicks.....except they have 5 toes!!

I have come to the realization that I love silkies, polish, easter eggers to include the parent stock, black coppers, phoenixes, frizzles and mutts the best. I'm sure i've left out a few but will update more. Maybe it'd be quicker if i listed the ones I don't like... leghorns. I didn't think I'd like dominiques until i met wendell's. they are sweet, sweet birds.

He lived in Califorina growing up if going to the beach every day did not cure him of it this won't. He hated it back then. Also he did not want any more pets so I take full care of them.
