Ok so I now have 9 pullets. One of my doms started laying a couple of weeks ago, making 6 layers. Yesterday I got another small egg that I assumed was from the second dom, which would give me 7 layers. I have seen no sign of an EE egg yet.

Today I got 8 eggs. TWO tiny ones. One from the newly laying dom I assume, the other from????? All of the eggs are some shade of Brown, so I'm thinking NOT from the EE? Anyway 9 birds, 2 of which are EEs (green eggs?), and 8 brown/tan eggs. I'm confused. My first thought was that I left one out yesterday. But (a) I checked the nests after they had gone to roost last night. And (b) even if I missed one, none of the early morning eggs were "oops I got left out overnight" cold.

Will EEs lay brown eggs?
Our EE Lays brown eggs.....

Sharon, Have the combs on you EEs reddened yet? Mine are still a pale pink color. I'm pretty sure mine aren't laying yet.
My EE is almost 30 wks and its finally started to get more red in the comb. I know that she's not laying yet. Hubby is ready to fatten her up and cook her.

Shy, you hatch the most beautiful birds! Makes me wish for more room!

Btw, Pidge is doing well and she is gorgeous! I will have to post a pic soon. :) She is ecstatic that I moved the big chicks too; they were bigger than her and didn't really pay attention to where they were walking (or who they were walking on).

Yea, Shy always has good looking birds. And she always drops by long enough to tell us she has some for sale.

Wendell, my EEs have been red faced for 2-3 weeks now. Hmm I will have to look and see if these small eggs have any kind of a pink tinge. My house is very dark, I'll carry one outside and take a look. Hmmm, just toop 2 outside. One of my tiny eggs 'might' be a little rosier than the other. And the shell texture is different too. I had noticed, and meant to comment that what I think are the dom eggs seem to have a kind of a 'chalky' finish to the shell, but hadn't because I thought that might just be the first few eggs.

I'll keep a watch out. Good to know about the pink eggs tho.

i've got 5 brown egg layers and they all have a different 'finish' to them, its how i can tell which egg came from which type. kirk and spock are the same kind of bird so i can't tell theirs apart, but i can tell which two are theirs.

Egg laying average over the last week is 7 per day. All 11 hatchery Doms are laying. The show Doms are not, and neither are my EEs yet.. Got a total of 8 today. And they are getting bigger!

#11 will be processed on Saturday. My niece and her kids are visiting and he started to get aggressive with her little girls, but my oldest son was paying attention and intervened. He goes (the rooster, not my son). Not going to tolerate any more of his nonsense.

Beth gets another chemo treatment!

That must mean the Dr. thinks she's doing well - so glad to hear!

Sad about #11 but sounds like the logical option for you, and there are always next year's roos - perhaps once you start hatching your own you will be gifted with another high quality backup - nothing like a homebred to lend confidence to your breeding program :)
