Hello BYC! My first flock and first post! My chicken lady had a snag in her incubator so I bought a "Colorful Egg Package" from Stomberg's Hatchery on the fly. I told them I wasn't picky but wanted cold hardy birds since I live in Northern Minnesota (I can literally see Canada from my house). These ladies (haha, I hope) are about 8 weeks old. I have called them "roasters" (the big red ones), "bluebutts", "blackheads" , and I have one "calico." While have some guesses as to their true breed, I want to put them out to the experts!

Looks like two Easter Eggers, the other two look awfully meaty for 8 weeks.

I am really careful about referring to any unknown chicken as an EE and leg color is one thing that often gets thrown around on this board.

There is a great post on that thread about the lack of standard regarding EE. They are not a breed and are just a “mutt mix” so it’s really hard to call someone’s chicken an EE, given that some require the hen to lay an egg of appropriate coloration before it can even earn that title.

Then again, I have a chick that was sold to me as an EE and it does indeed have green legs. But I quickly explain to anyone who asks about my chickens that of my 6 I have 5 breeds plus a mutt called an EE because she’s supposed to lay green or blue tinted eggs when she starts laying.

Great read! Thanks for the info!
