coloring eggs

You can color any of them. Its just the darker eggs will show up dark, kinda off colors.

Green or green/blue eggs take on jewel tones when you dye them blue or green. The browns don't take too well; however, i came across a web site that mentioned an old PA Dutch custom of boiling the eggs with dry onion skins to dye them deep brown and then scratching designs in them so the designs are like white lines. For good yellows and oranges you really need white/cream eggs.
This is why we have a variety of chickens. Don't have the right color egg? GET MORE CHICKENS!

deep rich earthy colors!!! we used the cheap Paas Easter Egg Kits! I'll never use just plain white eggs again.

I got more EE hens this year so that next year I will have more eggs to dye. They make the most beautiful easter eggs. I used OEGB eggs this year because I am down to one EE.

I have four Leghorns and have been saving their eggs for a month so that we would have plenty of white eggs to dye. We didn't think to try the brown eggs but maybe we should have.

Will try next time.

Well folks.... we boil 'em and peel 'em and slice 'em and pop that yolk out to devil. Then we die the half eggs in food coloring. With the yellow deviled middle, they look wonderful on a platter waitin' to be devoured..... hum good and lookin' good..... pastel egg halfs with yellow deviled centers. Those only come on the table @ Easter time.

A blessed Easter to all!

Too late - ate them all today... daughter went out the door with the left-overs.... they make a pretty picture though....
