Colour related agression or just unlucky?

I was wondering if the mixing of colours with the ringnecks should be cause of any issues? I currently have one pen with a pair of jumbos, a jumbo white hen and a green mutant hen.

The Jumbo white has always been the outcast of this little group since last summer when I got them. 2 days ago I found her hiding in a nest box with her skull and back of the neck completely skinnned..... Still alive and quite annoyed with me after I caught her(lots of hissing and squealing), cleaned her up with iodine, peroxide and polisporin and put some gauze on it and gave her a nice wrap. Changed bandages before and afterwork and last night it looked quite clean and nice so I got the dissolving sterile sewing kit I buy at the vets for just such emergencies and closed what I could( not enough skin to close all of it but it should help heal shut faster).

I think she will be just fine, will always look a bit off and is permanently blind in the right eye i think....

Definitly was in good spirits this morning when I moved her in a bigger holding cage(besides the fit she threw when I got her out of the emergency cage, feathers everywhere and screeching the whole way there).

Tough little birds they are. But what are my chances of her ever being able to be integrated with the rest of my ringnecks? Would she do better with a group of whites?

Thanks in advance,
Anna

let her heal up real good before putting her back in, sounds as if she may have scalped her self on the netting or whatever is above them to contain them..?

thats gonna be a tough one there, pheasants are or can be very territorial believe it or not, females included.

you can put snap on peepers on them and it will make things a bit tougher at getting to her or each other. i prefer the snap on's, instead of the push pin types..

don't put a peeper on her that way she has the advantage of getting away.. provide good cover and some roosts in there pens for them to fly up on to..try to provide at least 25 or more square feet per bird if you can..

hope this helps some

X2. As a side note, the Jumbos tend to be much tamer than standard ringnecks and not nearly as flighty. I had a Jumbo rooster once that was as tame as a chicken. They are much better suited for an aviary than standards, though they can get quite large. Mine weighed about 7 lbs.

My crosses and melanistic are very tame. but i have some of them going on 5 years. last year i got the melanistics from the jersey zoo and they were afraid of me until they realized were the tasty treats come from, now there my buds too.. lol

some of my hens will come up and take food out of my hand.

once any pheasant and i mean any pheasant gets to know you and feels relaxed and safe in there pens they will not run from you.

My edwards where very frantic of me at first, but now they trust me 99% of the time, still a little work with them.
hate being attacked when i go into get there eggs..they arent like ringneck types, these guys fight to keep there golden eggs.

Last year i introduced 5 new standard colored hens to my pen of crosses and they all got along just fine, lil bossing by the older girls but no damage and everybody is very happy togeather. but i cant say i hadnt seen battles in the past, some are not so bad others can be very intense battles.

My ringnecks are all rather friendly, the Jumbo male and the green hen eat out of my hand. Although I don't trust him as much at this time, he make clucking and growling noises at me none of my ringnecks before ever done(used to have a chinese ringneck male who loved being carried around and was a total pest).
I think she freaked because I grabbed her from the side she was blind in(since I did not know). I doubt she hurt herself flying up, since they are all clipped/pinioned. Now she is patient with handling to a certain extend and then she gets all hissy and squeals(and looses feathers, still got white feathers in my house).....

I wonder if she will start laying after she healed up or if she will skip this season......?
