Is the Columbian gene recessive? I have a couple hens that were crossed with my Columbian roo and my white hen. I didn't know if I took these girls back to the roo if they would produce Columbian's or not.

Thanks for any information.

Mmmm Well anyway I'm pretty sure Columbian isnt recessive and in Cochins, the whites are usually recessive white, which would be masking some other color and without knowing what color, it would be hard to predict what you would get but I wouldnt really have expected white chicks from that crossing.

Maybe someone else will chime in soon.

Oh Can you elaborate a bit more on how it would work ? I know the Andalusian Blue gene is Inc. Dom too and I know how that works of course, but what about columbian ? What else does it produce ?

Okay, I understand incomplete dominant. I actually raise chinchillas, and the white in chins is an incomplete dominant. So basically by breeding these girls back to a Columbian roo I'm not gaining anything over breeding them to say anything else. In that case I'll thin these three out and keep with my two hen Columbians.

Thanks!
