Hi All you wise ones.

I have hatched out for the first time some Columbine chicks - I think it is a legbar cross or related somehow, so am told they are auto-sexing. I think I have got one male and three females - am I correct? One has a definite large yellow/cream blob on its head, one has a very small blob, one has a slightly fainter patch.

I am also puzzled that two seem to be brown stripey, two black stripey - is this normal?

Thanks!

They should all be Columbines - that is what I ordered and the eggs were either blue or a greeny-grey colour.

How many chicks are there? 5? I thought the lighter chick (to the right in pic2) was a different breed/mix but if that’s a Columbine I’d guess it’s male too.

The only info I can fine on sexing them is this https://www.durhamhens.co.uk/poultry-supplies/Columbine-Hatching-Eggs-(Pack-of-6)-p131965063

So I’d be interested to see what others say too but I don’t think they’re a popular hybrid to hatch and you may have to wait a couple weeks for feathers to come in and confirm. I’m assuming males will be barred (like CL) but can’t find any specifics.

Yes, there are 5 altogether - the lighter one in picture 2 is a Welsummer, and I pretty sure is male - did not realise he had snuck into the photo, but fairly typical of his behaviour so far :) If there is going to be a chick who gets out / jumps out of your hands / walks through the waterdish etc - it is that one...
