Comb damage from dog attack

Ok this has been getting worse and I am at a loss. he was injured in a dog attack. He is eating well and seems ok other than his comb. I have been flipping back and forth about what to do. Any suggestions. I have him separated from the rest of my flock in case it is something other that just the results of the attack paired with Alabama heat in August. There are no flys attacking so I don't think there is infection.

Im not sure but it kinda looks like pox to me. IF it is its contagious to the others so good thing you have them separated and it just runs the course unless its wet pox. look inside the mouth and see if there is anything there.

It doesn't appear to be wet. It looked initially like blood when it first happened but it has gotten worse as time moved on. As I said he appears fine except in the look of his comb. I am going to put antibiotics in his water and am thinking something on the comb itself. Any suggestions. I am relatively new to chickens. (2 years) and have never had any issues prior to this. My husband is all for putting him down since we have another Black Australorp Rooster. I just hate to do it unless there is no hope. All of the rest of the flock that got attacked are doing fine.

triple antibiotic but dont use anything with "cain" the pain relieving type. that can be toxic.

Update on my roo. I left him in the broody pen until yesterday. Based on everything I have read everything says that the comb will not grow back. Well let me tell you not only is he doing fine but the comb is growing back. All of the crusty areas have dropped off and the comb is now about a inch high. It is not as dark red as it was but I am wondering, if given time it will darken. It has its little peaks as well as a sound looking base. I am very glad I didn't rush to put him down. I put him in with the hens yesterday and he looks quite happy to be there

I am thrilled cause he is a pretty boy The other roo - both are black australorpe (SP) - is starting to get to big for his britches. Had to pop him yesterday and my husband said he was sizing him up when he went out to close the gate for the night tonight, The one young man that is healing is very gentle, at least for now, and I am thinking that if this other boy keeps acting out I will have to turn him into Sunday dinner. I had heard and read that the aggressive trait is passed on and I really don't need that. Thanks for the encouragement! Keep on clucking!
