My chicken has just died apparently from blood loss coming from a hole at the base of her comb. I separated her from the others bathed the injury and left her for a while . On my return she was bleeding very profusely again from this hole and though it would stop for a while it would start up bleeding again. I am totally mystified how such a small hole should cause her death in one day.

Thanks for your reply . Yes that would seem to be the most logical answer but, l only have 4 chickens who have free range over a large garden , she was more quiet than the others but l have never seen them pick on her out of the normal pecking order and there was no other marks on her - l had a chicken before who constantly pecked the other to its injury and that was a very obvious ongoing problem. I guess my real puzzle is why did so much blood keep flowing out of such a little hole?
