Omelet is a 7-1/2 Buff. 2 days ago she started acting a bit lethargic and then yesterday her comb turned bright red and laid over to one side. This morning it is slightly purple on the back side and she is still pretty much standing in one place. I know she is a old hen but any thoughts on what I can do to help her just be more comfortable in her final days. I did start her on amoxicillin yesterday evening and gave her a second dose this morning.

How is your hen doing? Did the antibiotics help?

Is her crop emptying normally?

I am late on updating this. All day Tuesday she laid in a corner of the run and could not stand. I made an appointment at my vet for possible euthanasia. Got her to the vet and she was only weighing a little over 5 pounds for a hen that should be 8-9. With input from my vet decide to proceed with the euthanasia. My vet performed a necropsy after to reveal her entire cavity was full of cancer and that cancer had pretty much attached to every vital organ.

Oh I am so sorry. Chickens can really hide that they have anything wrong until the very end.

So sorry for your loss. Unfortunately cancer is common in laying hens. At least she is not suffering now.
