Please tell me what you think of Roscoe's comb. At first I thought he'd been pooped on, but it has stayed for over a week now. The tips are more blackish than the photo shows, and then there's whitish stuff that looks like poop dribbled down. The blackish part looks kind of gooey. Could it be frostbite damage? We had a wet and very cold spell. None of the others have this.

If it is frostbite, I suggest rubbing on some vaseline. Since he has such a big comb, he is at a very high risk for it. See if that helps it go away at all, and if it doesn't I don't know what to tell you. :idunno

We had a cold spell several weeks ago and have had so much rain this year, so hopefully that's what it is. It's warm here now, so should I still vaseline it up, for healing, or just leave it be? He's not the most amenable to being handled but I can do what I have to.

I would leave it alone. Betadine or Vetericyn would be okay if it is above freezing. Vaseline does not really prevent frostbite, but should not be used after frostbite has ocurred. The skin cannot breathe with ointment on it. This sled dog product below is a wax based product that is supposed to not freeze when applied to combs and wattles. I have seen pecking wounds that turn white after first turning black.
