i have two birds i think are production red. same age. one has a rose comb & one has a single. what does comb difference signify? is it regarding breed, or regarding sex, or does it signify nothing?

I think that somewhere back in the their ancestors there is a bird with a rose comb. Whether that is nothing depends on how you look at it. The comb type means little for sex or egg laying. It is a breed characteristic. Which makes me wonder how it got into a production red.
