I have a hen, named Ebru. Yesterday, I have seen suddenly the wattle, combs and around eyes are light pink than red. She is normally boss of the other 5 hens. But . yesterday she was slow, not much interested on food. But drinking water instead. She went to roost , others did not want to roost with her much. She egged while she is at the roost. Her poop was very liquidy. But no blood or any worm as much as I can see with my eyes. And her feathers were dirty from the diarrhea.

Checked by eyes, no lice or any bug on her.
I have been researching since yesterday what might be wrong with her.
They are free in the garden during the day.

This morning she came running outside with others
Still did not interest much morning treats which is mixed with feed, wheat, yeast, pro-biotic, DE, dry worms (no soy/corn), dry berry , rose buds, dry oregano and sort.
Went directly to the water.

I have put Corid and Vitamins /Electrolytes with lacto Bacillus in their water this morning. And did not let them out from the run today

I have 3 cameras in the coop and run, I can watch them when I am away.
I have seen her lying in egg box long time, not sure she could egg or not.

When I came back to home, her comb and wattles were more reddish, but still not the same as others.
She still does not eat much, but eats dry worm.
Gave them rice, plain yogurt dry crushed egg shelves, safflower.

She was interested in rice, yogurt, and some safflower.
I have checked her crop, it was very soft, small, I could feel the safflowers in them.
She was nibbling on the eggplant at my vegetable garden which is fiber and magnesium I think.

I had ivomec today, but was not sure I should give it.
I got epsom salt, not sure yet , how much or how should give it.
I will get liver tomorrow, cook and give it to her to fight against anemia.
Will continue with corid about 5/7 days and always with electrolytes
I got organic bragg apple cider vinegar that I will add their water...
Planning to add cod liver oil.
Should I give oil from her egg channel for egg bound possibility...

Too much information, too much confusion, what might be wrong. Am I doing right, wrong? what am I missing?

Can be Cocci, egg bound, crop problem ..
After all that search, now I am lost... And I am pretty new...

Sorry for the long story... But I need experience, suggestions.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope I can help.

It could be worms, but it could very well also be the heat. Was she panting at all? Is it really hot there? Reasons for a pale comb include poor circulation or heart/lung problems, worms, or even going broody.

I heard somewhere that mixing corid and vitamins is somehow bad? I"m not sure why, just thought I'd pass it on.

Feel her abdomen. Egg bound hens tend to strain a lot and hunch over, or else sit in the nest box for a long time. Crop problems usually include a swollen or foul smelling crop. It could be a viral or bacterial problem, so keep an eye out for other symptoms.

I hope she gets better soon. Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply.

It is hot here, I mean darn hot and humid. Alabama. 95 F. They have plenty shades around the backyard. Sands for their pleasure and sort. However she was not panting. Just slow, still forage, not sure she eats much. I have good ventilation in the coop (fan) to take the air /humid out. Runs automatically when it is certain temperature.

Hmmm. Ok, I will give only corid tomorrow.
She sits long time, she does not have hunch over, or any weird acting body.
I checked the poop, no liquidy poop anymore under roost. All seems normal.
She drinks lots of water.
Her crop is very small and soft, compared to others, and almost empty, I guess because she does not eat much.
I will give hard boiled eggs tomorrow too.

Viral and bacterial problem!!! I am watching her and the others. Should I separate her from others? could it stress her separation, since she seems still joining them.

Most people choose to separate their chickens, but I usually let them stay with the others. If its infectious the others likely have it already, and separating the hen just makes her stressed and less able to fight off the problem (though if she is very weak separation can help her as she can just rest and stay warm). However, it is completely a personal choice, a risk one way or the other.

This link can help with heat problems:

After a few days later, she (Ebru) perked up... be herself again, bossing all other 5 around. Colors came back. Yay... I gave corid for 5 days with their water. And put electrolysis (might be spelling wrong) thingy in their water.

I'm glad she is okay!
