I found out I have a roo. So he is being re-homed this weekend. At the same time, I am getting 2 new 8 week old pullets from a friend of a friend, to add to my 4 existing 10 week old pullets. I've got a metal dog kennel ready to go into the run with the chickens to introduce them, while also keeping them separate. How long should I do this? When can I open it up and let them all together, and how??? Someone help! I've never done this before!

Good morning, welcome to BYC. You are doing it correctly. The see/don't touch method of introduction is the easiest. As for how long, that depends on your flock. Since they are so close in age it shouldn't take more than a few days if you have plenty of space. Sometimes there are circumstances where things don't work out. Usually because the chickens being introduced are very different and very docile. What breeds do you have, and what breeds are you adding?

I have a Buff Orpington, Plymouth Rock, and 2 Americaunas. My roo was a Buff Orp, so I'm getting another Orp hen and a wyandotte.

I agree that you run is small. I would consider enlarging it at some point if at all possible.
