Hi everyone I am a little worried , I read that the combs should be red and shiny if the chick is healthy. I took some picks of my chicks their combs are pale and a couple curved.. They are 14 weeks old they don't appear sick they are eating and drinking , what do u think..

Combs and waddles should be bright red and swollen looking., much like a ripe strawberry.

This applies to both hens and roosters but only if those birds are in the mood for love, which buy the way is the only reason that a hen lays eggs, or for that matter why a rooster chases hens.

Anytime a hen is in an unproductive phase her head, comb, waddles, bill, and shanks (feet) will be dull but as she gets closer to point of lay her comb, head, etc. plumps up and becomes more colorful.

This is especially true on breeds with big head gear like Leghorns.
