Ok so i know that when a bird of mine is hatching i need something to distract me from going over and looking into or poss. opening the bator so i thought it would be kinda neat if there was a thread specificaly for when your babies are hatching...when you post on here make it worth someones time and maybe post a pic of the baby and talk about them, or tell us about the best hatch you have ever had, brag about the babies you hatched, any strange hatches you had, anything that you think is interesting, ya know just have fun and distract us with your amazing stories or pictures...

Hi! I need a distraction

I moved a group of eggs to hatcher yesterday --- and a single duck egg that I have no idea exactly when it's due.
One of my ducks snaked under the fence into a Silkie house and laid an egg in the back corner and a Silkie hen started setting it --- I thought she was 'setting on air' because all the Silkies eggs were accounted for and ... surprise. I was going to let the Silkie hen finish hatching it, but the other morning I found it laying out in the rain (somehow, it got rolled out of the nest, over the threshold, and out into the run). Picked it up and wiped off the worst of the mud and stuck it under my shirt to warm back up. When I candled, it was still very cold and couldn't see any movement. Duck eggs are pretty tough, so put it in the incubator and it was wiggling the next morning when I candled.
I've been candling it every day and *looks* like it's ready. If I'm lucky, it'll hatch along with this weeks chicks.
Wish it luck!
