One day you’ll just go out there and SURPRISE!!! Little fluff balls running everywhere!
You were right @Farmgirl283420!
The other day I went outside to see several little fluffballs❤️
And even though I'm not keeping them I had to name them.
The black and white one which is a black Australorp mix is named Patricia, the lightest one is named Pringle, and Phyllis's last chick looks very similar to Patricia and it's name is Starburst. It is kinda a slowpoke and takes a while to catch up with mama hen once she walks a little ways away. Do you think that is caused by its yolk sac that is still partially sticking out? Whenever I hold the chick I get yolk on my hands from the tiny bit of the sac that is left on there.
The dark brown one's name is Frankie, the light gray one is Billy Bob, and one of the black one's name is Herbert. Herbert has a twin so I don't know who is who. You guys can respond to this post with names and I'll put all the names on the website "Wheel of Names" to decide what the last chick will be named.

Congratulations, they're so cute!

@talkinboutchickens Since his name is Herbert, maybe the twin could be Sherbet? Or Norbert? They are ALL so adorable! Terrific mamas. 🥰 Congratulations! Also, keep an eye on that yolk sack. You don’t want it getting messed with. Clean it and use a little triple antibiotic. It should’ve been fully absorbed. Keep us updated.

Awwww those are such cute names!! I will give it a little thought.
Mama hen was eating the stuff coming from the yolk sac. What triple antibiotic should I use? If it's not absorbed tomorrow should I be worried? Why didn't the yolk sac fully absorb?
P.S. One of them died. It was wet when I saw it this morning and it was limp, mama hen switched nesting boxes so I think it got cold and died right after hatching😟

I’m so sorry to hear that. 😞 Hugs. Any triple antibiotic (non-pain relief) will do. I can only tell you what I’d do… bring the chick inside, clean the area and apply antibiotic, then place it in a brooder on paper towels or piddle pads to keep it clean and wait for the yolk to finish absorbing. A little chick food and chick waterer, if you keep it inside longer. These are all only suggestions for chick safety, until the yolk fully absorbs. It should be fine. It just needs a little more time.

@talkinboutchickens That is a little strange that the yolk wasn’t fully absorbed, unless mama helped it hatch a little, before it was ready. It sounds like it’s just a tiny bit of yolk sack left, so it’ll be okay to clean it a little and put some antibiotic on it. I apply antibiotic to many of my incubator chicks belly buttons.

Awwww! I just love how gentle and protective broody hens are of their babies and their eggs! I have another broody and I was trying to make sure she got up to eat. When I tried to lightly push her off she dug her head in and screamed at me! A lot different from Amelia! 😂 Amelia’s eggs are due to hatch Sunday and I don’t know when Enola’s are due. Guess it will be a surprise 😉 I kinda like the name Chip for the little chick 🐥
