We'll have to wait and see late Spring or Summer as to what color egg we'll get, but I'm hoping for green. Crunchie said that they were supposed to be from an order of Blue Splash Ameraucanas, but they didn't turn out exactly as advertised, so she's said they were just EE's. They both have green legs, but are nearly rumpless compared to our other Ameraucana, Blossom.
Anyway, I'd be surprised if we get blue eggs, but green or blue, or somewhere in between, would be a welcome sight.
The one did remind me of a blue splash. They are really lovely. I bet they will just continue to get even prettier as they grow. 4 of my EE girls lays green eggs and one of them lays a pinkish tan. I was just wondering b/c I would love to own an Ameraucana to add to the flock.
Well, I did find folks here at BYC that had pullets of all kinds, including EE Ameraucana's, fairly quickly with a post. So, that's where I would start for fast results.
I read that only about 8% of Ameraucana's are true standards, the rest being EE's. I wouldn't know where to look to find true blue egg laying standards. They're supposed to be rather rare.
I couldn't resist. Here's another picture of Blossom. She looks much more like a textbook description of an Ameraucana (not that I'm any kind of expert), with those tail feathers and all. Maybe we'll get blue eggs from her. Who knows?
She's really shy around the other chickens, sticking close to the bigger ones, and makes a little fussy, whining sound, somewhere between a cheep and a bawk; truly the baby of the bunch. I really do love her plumage.
She's really pretty. One of my EE girls named Brownie is similar in coloration, but Brownie has muffs on her face. I'll have to find a pic and show you. I got my flock from Cackle Hatchery last spring.
