Hi everyone. I was here several years ago, but lost all my birds to some kind of critter attack. It has taken me years to even consider getting a new flock. So here I am, warily stepping into animal husbandry again with a lot more knowledge, less fear of looking stupid by asking questions, and more determined than ever to raise and keep a small flock of multipurpose birds. I'm building a big secure run and a good sized coop to accommodate 12 chickens. I have purchased and acquired 5 Brahma chicks, now 3 weeks old, and 7 Australorp/Plymouth Rock cross chicks, a few days old.

I just put them together in their temporary lodging (rabbit hutch), and they are doing great together. The Brahma chicks are tall enough for the babies to run between their legs, and they all cuddle together. After about the first hour of "who are you and what do you taste like" we all seem to be doing fine. The heat lamp is on one end and if the bigger birds don't like the heat, they stretch out at the other end. I just wanted to introduce them as quick as I could so there wouldn't be bullying later.

I've been participating in the Facebook group, but I am of the 80's generation and love forums. I know that I can glean a lot more information from a forum, without annoyingly asking the same question you guys have already answered a gazillion times already. I also abhor drama, and I'm not looking to start or settle any.

So here I am again, humbly lurking around, here to soak up your knowledge and offer some if I can. If I ask a kindergarten question, please feel free to give me the "here's your sign" answer. I got my big girl pants on.

Welcome here, and lurking is ok too. but glad you want to participate! -BYC-sign-flash.gif
