This morning I was awaked at 7:15 by 2 of my girls making such a racket. At first I couldnt figure out what was all the commotion about

- then I reccognized it as the 'egg laying song'. I had read about this and seen it on Youtube- but had NO idea it was so loud! Who needs a rooster!?! The cackling went on and on, and even had one of my neighbors up and looking out the window! These three hatched the end of July, so they are just coming up on their 20 wk B-day. LOL-Is this what my little city neighborhood has to look forward to each day now?

I don't know. My girls are pretty quiet and I have quiet a bit of them.....well more than I really need, that is. Maybe because they aren't used to it yet????

I have a leghorn and an Ameraucana that just get into noise and racket after they've laid an egg.

The Ameraucana also "whines" when I'm outside until I give them food and then she shuts up... but she is LOUD!

Congrats on the egg song! Are you sure they hatched the end of JULY? That would make them only about 15-16 weeks old now. My oldest hatched on July 20th so will be 17 weeks this weekend....

Yep- they hatched July 27th. No eggs yet- I keep looking. We had another serinade this morning. Same rythmic bababaBAWK- repeated for about 1-2 minutes. Its pretty funny.

They may settle down after some time.....after they get used to laying. It's very exciting to them when they first start. My RIR sang almost a whole day before she finally laid her first. She still sings from time to time, but not quite so heartily.
