While at Tractor Supply, I seen black chicks mixed in with the Amberlinks.
The sign said "Comm. black pullets"..
I bought one, to see what I end up with..
This little chick is mostly black, black legs, dark red around eyes,
reddish beige chin and a white spot on it's head!
Any idea what breed this chick may be?

***Edit: The hatchery emailed me, and confirmed that she isn't a sexlink or any type..
She is crossed with Australorp.

I called Tractor Supply.. "Comm. black" was an abbreviation for "Common black".
She said they were labelled as "Common black pullets".
What are some common black chicken breeds?

(*Edit: TSC says "Common Black", the hatchery said they should have been labelled "Commercial Black". However, they are not a sex link of any type)

I would have thought black stars, but they said they are all pullets, and most of them had the white dot on the head, which would mean roos?

The hatchery emailed me back, it will be a lot like an Australorp.
So, a mix or sexlink with an Australorp of some kind I guess?

Thanks to those who answered.

It will be fun to see what it feathers look like as an adult please post when she is bigger so we can see how she turned out.

I got three of them from TSC today as well. Mine have white on the head but one of them its pretty faint the other two its a big white spot. White on the chin and butt and some on the tips of the wing feathers. In the same bin I got 3 reddish yellow chicks that have 2 slightly darker red vertical stripes on the back. Supposed to all be pullets hope thats true lol.

I'm wondering if it's a "commercial" black pullet, something along the lines of "production" reds. Simply a black chick, probably Australorp based but with the chances of something else being in the mix.

Mine is starting to get white tips on his/her wing feathers now, and a deep golden copper color in her/his wing feather! Similar to the very light coppery color around her/his eyes. Darker than the beigy color under her chin. Weird! I have no clue what to think, as far as breed goes! lol ....Oh! And I also picked up a similar chick to what you described! Yellow, with darker vertical stripes, more of a orange shade though. She was in a bin marked Amberlink pullets! The other Amberlink were yellow. So, I don't know? lol
