common mutation or normal toes?

The toes all seem to curve in. Seems like it could be a mutation. This was an 'ameraucana' ordered from McMurray's hatchery.

It's just "curled toes" which can be genetic or something during incubation.

It is pretty common when it comes to chicks, sometimes they can be corrected if found early and splinted.

I have a rooster with a toe like that. He had spraddle leg as a chick. I fixed the leg problem but not the toe. It doesn't affect him any at all. He get along fine.

fairly common problem

not a mutation just genetics and environment issues

I have seen fairly old birds living with that condition

I've seen similar deformity on chickens that didn't learn to stand correctly while learning to walk as chicks. May be the case with yours, or may be genetic.

It is called Curled Toe Paralysis, and caused by a deficiency in Riboflavin I believe. It is a common sight in Murray McMurray Easter Eggers (they're not Ameraucanas) as even my EE roo has the same problem. It has something to do with the parent stock and their environment and/or genetics.

My EE girl Carmen has that on both feet. She gets around fine barring the occasional stumble down the ramp from the coop.

The main problem is keeping the toes clean since they can get stuff stuck in the folds created by the curving, and keeping the nails trimmed (Carmen ~1yr old pictured below before a nail trim).
