I guess everyone new to chickens has this same question, is this a boy or a girl?
I got my hens from Meyer Hatchery 14 weeks ago, "mixed brown egg layers," so I don't know the breeds, but they are all supposed to be hens. One of the chicks doesn't look like the others and I don't know enough to tell the difference. The feathers around the neck are pointed and s/he is the most aggressive in the flock. Can anyone tell by these pics?

Whew! I hope you are right. It's the pointed feathers at the neck that made me wonder.
We are inside city limits so we can't have a rooster, and this one (named Scarlet) is my wife's favorite. She would be heartbroken if she couldn't keep her.

With the coloring and shape, some hens look almost like they have pointed hackles. Don't worry about it.

I'm married to a Dead Head and she named all of them after Grateful Dead tunes. Scarlet was going to be Jack-A-Roe and have to find a new home. I am relieved!
Thanks!
