Hey folks, me again.
After the yellow poop fiasco a few days ago (sorted by a course of herbal remedies) our one year old rhodie (we call her pasty patsy cos if her yellow poop issue) has now got a compacted crop.
She's all sad for herself, not eating much, still drinking and scratching. But very lethargic n tired which is understandable. Have been messaging her chest but nothing being brought up. Will keep you posted as to our progress but don't think things are looking to hopefull . :-(

My understanding is that you don't want to bring anything up until it turns to sour crop. With Impacted crop, I have found that feeding olive oil soaked bread chunks works well to lubricate and loosen the contents of the crop. I usually feed that mixture every night until the problem is gone. After feeding I gently massage to break it up with some very light downwards pressure. If you have grits, try getting her to eat some as well. Good Luck!

Ok, thanks. Will try the olive oil thing from tonight. Can they digest the mass in time or do they tend to throw it up in the end?

I have never had a chicken throw up the clumps while it is still impacted. If it is impacted long enough, it will likely develop into sour crop which when throwing up comes into play. Hopefully it won't come to that but if it does, there are many other threads related to it. After the lump disappears, I always assumed they digested it because there are some "off" poops but then everything goes back to normal. If she is in the coop with the others, bring some treats to distract them from the bread you are feeding patsy.
