Greedy died today, sometime between 10am and 3.30pm, she was in the main house but laying slightly away from the nest box she had been in. A lovely natured hen right to the end.

(Yesterday she was up in the eggbox still at 10 and as I cleaned the coop out around her she did actually fly down and spend the day in the garden. She ate blueberries and some ham scraps and drank some water. She was up in the eggbox again by 4pm. This morning she was still in the eggbox at 10, breathing but didn't seem inclined to leave or drink water I held near her.)
I let them die with their friends and family if I can. I have killed very sick birds in the past; I'm never sure if I'm doing it for their sake or mine.
Greedy.:love

We did kill a young silkie last summer. Never could work out what the issue was, tried hard to help in many ways. But the suffering was awful and resulted in it injuring itself. So we ended that one. That had actually a really awful feeling about the whole thing.
Greedy and the previous copper maran were ill but it also seemed natural and age related too somehow. Lovely girls. And we still have Black, the 3rd copper maran, here to enjoy and remind us of them
