I'd like to know why nobody told me the drawbacks of getting chickens.

I've had my four buff orps just over 24 hours now and I'm already obsessed with them. I'm running outside every few minutes to check on them, handling and talking to them as much as possible and generally behaving like a nervous new mother hen (pun intended).

How am I supposed to get any work done around the house when all I want to do is play with the new babies???

Sheesh -- thanks a LOT, guys!

I know exactly how you feel! I had to go to a social event yesterday....left my 6-day-old chicks alone for the first time. I was a nervous wreck. Somehow, they all seemed to do just fine without me! Wait until you discover "chicken math"! Hope your babies are thriving!

The baby stage goes by so quickly and pretty soon it will get so easy you might feel the need to get even more fuzzy butts LOL
They can be addicting.
We are here together because of our love for chickens so maybe it's a little difficult to get us to say anything negative.
You'll see!
Welcome to the family.

I know how you feel. Mine are now out in their run and I peek out the window like a stalker.

I also shake my head at chicken math. Sent my husband to the feed store for food, he comes home with more chicks. It doesn't stop!

ENJOY your new chicks as much as you can now--the work around the house can wait--the chicks grow up sooooo fast. I remember when mine were chicks, every time I looked at them something was changing on them. Relax and enjoy!

Yes, I know! We are starving around here because I won't leave the chicks alone long enough to go to the grocery store!
My hubby says they are as bad as newborn babies. I check on them all through the night and mine are three weeks old!

LOL...thank you for the giggle...and I so understand...we are keeping our babies in the front bathroom in their brooder...my daughter had friends overnight last night and one of them went to use the bathroom in the middle of the night..I heard them and when they went back to bed I had to get up and 'check the babies' to make sure the lamp wasn't moved and that they were alright incase our company peaked in at them...I am a chicken stalker now..

LOL -- I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my new-to-chickens obsession. I have to leave them alone tomorrow when I go to work, and I'm already worried about them! Looking forward to summer vacation so I can stay home and watch them all day ...... :)

I've just about decided that my chicks are NEVER going to the coop! They can just stay right here in the house and live in my office forever.

Can you imagine those defenceless babies outside...in the dark..all alone? Not to mention the cold and they rain.

Besides..there isn't enough room for MY bed in that coop!
