completed our Amish style coop

Replaced the roosting 2x4 boards with tree saplings and they took to them like magnets:

thanks for all the nice comments. our RIR's seem to be enjoying the coop. they all march in together at night. kids are really learning a lot and look forward to getting off the school bus to visit with their new friends. we are also beekeepers and have been feeding them wax worms as well as small hive beetle larva. they have a feast on those bee frames that get invested with them.

considering adding an automatic door next and have been following the various threads on this forum. will try to keep the thread updated.

I love your coop but am especially interested in how you fastened the coop to the base. In New Zealand we are subject to high winds. Our coop will be 1200mm x 1200mm (4 feet x 4 feet). We are planning to embed four posts in holes and fill them with quickcrete. We'll end up with a base similar to yours but are trying to figure out the best way to tie the main structure to the base. I can't quite figure out how you did it from your photos. If you have time could you give a synopsis of how you did it?
Thanks

VERY nice! I will be renovating my main coop this coming summer, and this has given me some great ideas. Don't see anything I would change!
