If your chicks were bitten on the head and neck, I would suspect a weasle or mink. I had a mink get into my coop and kill some chickens. They looked like they had just dropped dead off the roost. Then I started really looking at them and found little bite marks where they had bitten them and drank their blood. Rats (at least when I've had to deal with them) usually eat the breast meat and feet. I've seen babies with their toes chewed off because that's all the rats could reach through the wire. If it is a weasle or mink, good luck catching the wiley little sucker. I never did catch the one that got into my coop, so I put most of my effort into making the coop safer. Good luck!

Rats, mink or weasel. For mink and weasel you need a relatively small cage trap or #1 foothold traps. Large rat snap traps baits with fresh meat will work for weasels, they are relatively small. A grown weasel can get through a 1.5" diameter hole.

Hello again. I bought a roo and hen seabrite 2 days old the roo would never go to the food or water i kept taking him to eat. Well he didmt makenit thru tge night last minday. She is about 10 days old. She runs around and eats and drinks but always seems to be gasping for air. I massage her crop giving her medicated chick starter a vitimin n water, woyld luke to know what else can be done i cant seem to fix her breatging. I am putting vrx under wing every other day

Yea, I agree. I've been pretty lucky and haven't dealt with much illness. Occasionally I have a chick kick the bucket, I just chalk that up to failure to thrive. I'd make a post in the Emergencies section and list of any symptoms he exhibited before he passed and see what they say. Sorry for your loss
