completely DUPED!

I feel very, very tricked now.... I recently bought some amerecaunas from a local feed store, and they were labeled STRAIGHT RUN AMERECAUNAS. But then I joined this site and I heard about EE's and i posted a thread with photos of my amerecaunas and found out they were really easter eggers. So I was a bit mad. The deciding factor was that my EE's did not have the slate/bluish legs of an amerecauna. But had green legs instead. Then we go to the stock shop to pick up some guineas and I notice they are selling BREEDER STOCK AMERECAUNAS and I thought they are just EE's but they had the SLATE COLORED LEGS!!! I was so duped, tricked into buying cheap stock when later in the month they sell better stock for the same price! Grrrr..... Now that I'm done, I guess I'll ask a stupid question. What does Straight run mean? And is there some other kind of stock other than straight run?

Straight run just means not sexed...so boys and girls all mixed together.

Judging from the pretty eggs I've been seeing posted on here today, I'd be delighted to have some EE's! Get the Amerecaunas, too. Get all colors of those pretty eggs!

Straight run is non sexed chicks. No choice of either roos or pullets. They are all just mixed together.

Edited to say, don't feel duped. Enjoy the EE's, they are beautiful birds and they usually are much more colorful than the others.

I don't think they're necessarily breeder stock, true Ameraucanas just because they have slate legs

I have 3 EEs that have slate legs. They are marvelous birds.

You also may want to rethink the 'cheap' description, too. Anything you buy at a feed store will be less expensive, but certainly worth having unless you intend to breed to sell with your own breeding program. You'll have to go to a breeder to find that quality.

I was frustrated with my longing for Ameraucanas, as well. I decided to go with EEs when I found them at the feed store, anyway, as I really only want colored eggs and the snobby part of me gave in to the puffy cheeks and kaleidoscope of fluffy butts in the pen.

Don't bother to try to tell the feed store they advertised falsely, either. They'll just look at you as though your eyebrows have turned purple. Enjoy your feathered friends!

One think to consider, some feed stores will purchase chicks from their customers to resell to other customers. That is one way of culling chiks that a don't meet a breeder's goals. So they could well be true ameraucanas tht are in some way "not quite good enough" to be kept--this can include those that are "just too many."

I wanted ameraucanas too but upon hearing about the EE's at the feed store and all that I really didnt have any way to get them because I only wanted a couple. So I have the EE's. They have great personalities, one is so smart its ridiculous. I find her outside at least twice a week and have no idea how she gets out. They lay large greenish blue eggs and are just as reliable as the RIR, they actually laid more this past winter. I now have a cockerel who is crossed EE X RIR and he is just gorgeous. Enjoy them.

My feed store sells EE's as Ameraucana, too -- they are not trying to dupe anyone -- I have knows these people for years and that is not how they operate. It is the hatchery that calls them Ameraucanas. They even post a printout from the hatchery so customers can see what the hatchery says about each type of bird.

No way am I going to try to tell them what is wrong with calling them Ameraucanas.

lol our feed stor sells chicks from cackle hatchery and they call them ameracauna st. run witch i didnt buy any but after seeing my chickens my step mom decided she wanted a flock at her house and went and bought ten of these and ten out of ten were roos she was so mad when i told her they were all roos she called them and preatty much gotta laugh from them best thing to do is order what you want from a hatchery if you dont want to end up with all males or go to a breeder if you want a more conforming breed
