hi! im going to be moving soon and want to start a small chicken run in my backyard. i haven't bought anything yet. i was thinking about rhode island reds.

Where do you live? Some breeds tolerate cold/heat better, might want to look at that. Good luck, and have fun. You will make the right decision. (oh, look at the comments about the breeds in the breeds section)

RIRs are a good choice, they can survive in various conditions, and they are also quite good egg layers.
If you need ideas for Coops, there is a section about that on BYC, it can be found along the top panel.
