Start off small, but plan for expansion (especially the coop). Their's nothing worse than realizing that the coop you built a month ago, is a lot smaller than you want now that you are into chickens. We think that 4 hens will be plenty, but then begin to add different breeds. Next thing you know it's a full blown flock.
