Completely unabsorbed yolk!

Chick was right on time and perfect pip zip unassisted. Very strong chick
Completely unabsorbed yolk. I tried putting her in a cup but she is so strong she just struggles to jump out. She ruptured the yolk very tiny hole but leaked almost all out. I’ve been watching closely it’s been about 6 hours since hatch. Doesn’t look like it’s going in her at all. Not bleeding. Not smelly. Good yellow color yolk.

Yolk was full sized. Has drained. She hatched while I was asleep last night so don’t know exact time.

That’s what I was wondering!!! How could I know? She was super small for the egg. Maybe the other yolk took up that space?

YouTube has double hatches and duds, but I havent found any egtopsies or single hatch plus yolk.

Did you candle the egg?

oh right. i didn't give much backstory. i was typing on my phone. i usually candle and mess with the eggs too much. this time i tried going hands off. i used a silkie broody and only candled at day 10. It looked like it was drawing down too fast. We live in the desert and it is especially dry this spring. So i moved the eggs to the incubator to finish out. Candled then, but only noting the drawdown levels and movement. This morning my husband thought the yolk sac was a failed embryo but I wasn't sure. The attachment point of the mass that is coming out of her is looking very "thick" and there is a lot going on there. hard to capture it really. I'll keep trying to get a good photo

Mine died at day 7, & 10.

Unabsorbed yolks can happen for a number of reasons. Temperature, humidity, or an impatient chick can be a cause.

Sorry, but my double yolk died in early stages as well.
