Complications!?!?!

Well our first hatch ever I don't think is going so well we're on day 23 and only 8 out of the 21 eggs have hatched, with one needing help. As much as I didn't want to I had too. I guess our humidity wasn't right because it had shrink wrapped. I ever so gently hatched the lil chick with no problems and no bleeding and it's doing great. However I have 3 eggs that seem to be doing the samething right now. I'm going to give it til tonight before I intervean. This totally sucks!!

But on the other hand I still have some cute lil ones runnin around!! I will post pics!!

Don't get too discouraged. If it's a first hatch or if you used shipped eggs there are a lot of things that could lower your numbers. Good luck with the chicks.

Sounds like the same thing that is happening here! Yours sound like they are in an incubator though, mine are under a broody. Sure hope we get some answers soon! Good luck with yours. Terri O

Yea my eggs are in a bator and the eggs are from our chickens. Most of them were fertal, I just don't know if we did anything wrong.

Oh well this is our first hatch and we're still learning. Guna wait til Sunday before we remove any eggs. Hopefully we'll get more hatches.

I think I may have the same thing going on here with my first hatch. They started last night no problem zip zip. The humidity in the Hova Bator was steady at 71% and rose when chicks hatched. By this AM the humidity was the same so I thought all was well. Then I saw a couple of hours ago there was NO water in te troughs but the humidity remained the same. Now I see holes through the membranes but they don't seem to be zipping around the shell. Zero progress for hours on the remaining eggs. I added some water through the vent hole and raised humidity a bit but I am nervous. They just are not as ambitous as the first half of the hatch. I am right on 21 days today. I hope I am just being a worry wart...

Me too!! UGH..

We're past 21 days though. Right now their ok, I called a friend about the one that I had to help hatch cuz the membrain was turning brown and she said that it had shrunk and to help it hatch, so I did. The 3 that are being slow right now don't have much brown on them but I'm still worried I might have to help them as well.

I guess we'll see what happens by this evening.

Uh oh, so it sounds like brown is bad. I do have brown. They hactched chicks are playing soccer with the unhatched eggs. The holes keep ending up on the bottom. I did not know how stressful this would be the first time.

LOL..us too!! Soccor, pip holes going down, ect. Ugh..well we're learning!! My husband is going to try and fix the bator so that it's a lil deeper, get an egg turner and when lockdown comes we're going to put the eggs in cartons and let them hatch that way. Then hopefully there's no soccor games goin on in there.

If we left them this time they would have burned their poor lil heads runnin around that thing.

We had to help another 2 chicks hatch last night cuz the membrain shrunk a little. Their doin ok. We looked this morning and we have another 3 trying to hatch 1 SLW and 2 bannies. They sure are taking a long time. We're on day 24 now. CRAZY!!

I hope your hatch gets better.

I think we're going to wait til this weekend to see if any more hatch at the pase we're going.

hi,day 21 here.............
It is difficult and I have barley slept out of fear the humidity would go bad.
Had a tiny hole in the top of an egg last night.........no further activity
Also. one appears to have cracked a little toward the middle of the egg.....also no further activity
since last night.
Temp 100......humidity 65 to 70
.Will keep checking back to see how everyone is doing.

I wish mine were in a bator. Kinda. I've got a broody sitting a dozen bantam cochin eggs and silkie eggs from our hens that are due, and nothing yet. I can't watch the progress (or lack thereof) and it's killing me! I went out this morning to check for babies, and nothing. Nothing!

I'm off today, and have to sit on my hands and leave them alone, and it's killing me.

So have fun sitting on your hands and watching. Think of me here not knowing...
