composting pine shavings

I have not started composting yet but I do have one question. if you have to wait to use the compost and adding chicken poop each day, how do you ever get to use it?

I've used the dirty pine shavings from my coop as mulch for years. I throw the grass clippings on top as well. My tomatoes are legendary and all vegetables thrive since I started using this method.
