This is the process I used for pony shavings:
Take shavings out to a portion of the yard and lay them in a "line". Add a layer of green matter (Grass clippings works best for this but you can also use coffee grounds) mix well and sprinkle with a hose. Cover with a black tarp or black plastic roll, weight down the edges. Within just a few hours the pile should get pretty darn hot. When it cools off, turn it and then add some more water if it has dried up. Cover it and let it heat up again. After it cools again you should have compost for your use.
Another thing that the shavings can be used for is mulch. I used them for the grape vines and berries.
