got the blue screen of death on my desktop
sad.png
the blue screen has already gone away and it won't show up again

i use Windows XP by the way

i've tried everything it says on the internet about fixing it, but it don't work

whenever i try to start it normally, it loads to one point, then the screen just stays black.

i'm looking for a solution that requires little to no money

There's a reason why it's called the "Blue screen of death".

Because usually, it's dead. And death is permanent.

Have you cleaned it lately - the tower?

long story short; came home from vacaction and my mom told me the desktop had the blue screen of death.

my mom usually just does her "window" shoping on there, so thats probably what the last thing that was up on it

i think i found a solution. i'm putting it back in its factory state (thank you recovery manager) lets hope this works

That should work and then you need to make some back up disks if you have important work on your computer!!! Good luck!!!!!!!!

My parents took theirs in because of this and the tech guy told them that computers talk in codes and numbers and while booting up it does a start up sequence, if a number or period or comma get misplaced, the computer will show a blue screen and not do anything, took the guy a couple of minutes to fix.

Don't know if it is the same thing or if this helps you, but I think taking it to a good tech person may help

Here's an idea to try. Download this an burn it to a disk.
http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora

Its a Linux operating system that will run off the disk an wont change your computer unless you tell it to install to hard drive.

Put the disk in the laptop an tell it to boot the disk. If it fails to load you probably have some kind of hardware that has failed. Most likely memory. If it loads its ether a software issue of a failing hard drive. If it is a failing hard drive there is a good chance it will tell you in the top right hand corner after it runs a few minutes. If you get no warning an it runs good you can probably assume its a software issue an reinstalling windows will probably fix it.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
DEATH

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The blue or black 'screen of death' does not mean death by any means. It just means that us computer nerds get to figure out what is conflicting on your computer and take some of your money. It's usually caused by something that was recently installed or updated.

It like... never ever means death. ever. but whoever coined that phrase makes me a lot of money.

FIRST thing you should do is go to START > My Computer > Programs and sort them by the most recently installed - a lot of times the newest update on XP causes this to happen. Just uninstall it (SP2 or SP3) or anything you may have just installed that you are capable of reinstalling if it is not the problem.

If you haven't installed or updated recently you can go into RUN (start> run) and type MSCONFIG - enter - now check out what you have starting up. sort it out by manufacturer and if it isn't your anti virus, printer, microsoft (or other needed program) just uncheck it. reboot and see what happens.

If you are unsure of anything - do not uninstall it.

However, your computer won't let you stop anything in MSCONFIG that will kill your computer in any way.
