So I can't be the only one to have this happen to. At some point I'll be getting a chicken. I love eggs, I love producing my own food, and I love animals. So with a lot of thought going into it, I say to myself "I'll get a Black Australorp!" they're hardy for the area I'm in, and produce a ton of eggs. But of course, you can't just have ONE chicken, they're social birds. So I have to get a second chicken, something that doesn't need to lay often, but with an unusual egg would be nice...Ohh, Copper Maran! Oh, and since I actually do things with the eggs, I'd have to get an easter egger too, because blue/green eggs are just too neat. Oh but wait, I read the thread about Derperella, and while I don't want to necessarily have a derpy chicken, Salmon Favroelles just look so cute...Wait, I'm up to four already?

Did I mention I haven't even moved to a place with a yard yet? ;D

I have two barred rocks that are EXTREMELY FRIENDLY. Recently they became a little too friendly by learning to jump on the table when we eat outside. then when you shoo them they step onto your arm. i still recommend them with 5 stars and someday mine will surprise a guest.

Well I like the number five a LOT better than the number four...And my guy DOES need a bit of convincing that chickens will make a great addition. (silly guy doesn't like eggs! Although he DOES like cake...) the Derperalla thread is changing his mind though. ;) So looks like a barred rock is on the list too. What color eggs do they lay? I was hoping to have a different color from each chicken.

RIght now i cant have any chickens until the hubby retires from the Army. But my chicken math goes like that: if i want to hatch 5 females i need 20 eggs. Because i go on the safe side and give a shipped egg hatch rate of 50%, which means only 10 hatch, and half of them are males. So thats why i would have too many eggs in the bator.
Then dont order only one of the breed you really really want, order two. So you still got one left should one die in transport

Conny, actually I might have to order 25 chicks at once since the place I'm looking to get them from (Sand Hill) only sells them in that number as chicks. I'd have to find homes for them fast though, because that would be a bit much for me to start with!
