It's almost the 4th of July which means that for those in the U.S.A. it's time for a BBQ, Apple Pie, and Fireworks.

This will be my first year of having chickens during this time of the year and I was hoping to get some advice on how to help my birds get through this holiday with a minimum amount of stress.

In addition to the fireworks my family set off in our front yard (the chicken coop is in the backyard) we are also about 10 minutes away from a place that shoot up the big professional fireworks, so the booms are heard pretty loud at my house.

Does anyone have suggestions about how to minimize stress on my birds while the fireworks are happening? Is there anything I can do so they won't be as afraid?

I'm planning on putting them in the enclosed wooden area of their pen and locking them in so they won't have access to the run below. Hopefully this will muffle the loud noises a bit.

What do you do for your chickens on the 4th of July?

Thanks, I guess I was just borrowing trouble where none exists!
There's a slight chance I tend to worry and over think things a wee bit too much.
