So I have a Buff Orpington and a Barred Rocks and I’m not sure who laid their egg but I want to say they laid their first egg on Thursday or Friday last week. I haven’t seen another egg since. Should I be concerned? I did switch their food to Purina Layena Pellets and they had crumbs before but I can tell they are eating the food. So I’m just not sure if this is typical, or should I do something about it. Still a complete newbie to the chicken life.

I just looked at my pics I received the brown egg on Friday!

New layers often take a while in between eggs. Nothing to worry about. :)
Oh thank goodness I was worried they weren’t happy chickens! I just went out and gave them some of what my best friend and I call “chicken crack” which is the garden delight package and some mealworms. Lol

They go completely nuts about the garden delight package!

I have a question; my buff was just singing the egg song but no egg anywhere. Is this usual to for new layers? I love the egg song she can surely hit the high notes lol

Sometimes they sing the egg song, even if there is no egg. Chickens can be weird like that. 😂

Okay can I bug you some more? My americuana who has been extremely reliable on her egg laying started hiding, and laying eggs outside her nest AND they were soft shell. I also believe she may have been egg bound, because I brought her in the house to cuddle her to monitor her and she legit laid an egg on me and it was a soft shell egg. I went and bought oyster shell cause I had no idea they needed that. So I hope that helps but should I be worried?? I added pictures of the two soft shell eggs, her comb, her poop right before laying her egg on me, and when I found her behind the coops laying her egg that was soft shell as well.

When did she start laying? Is the acting normal - eating, drinking, foraging, etc.? What do you feed you chickens?
