What do u guys and gals thank about concrete floors? I have a huge dog kennel, we have 9 long runs not been used in years, thinking about turning to breeding pens. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thank you.

Concrete floors are great.

Yeah.

You do want to put something on them though...... like sand or wood chips, or whatever.

But they are wonderful since they don't rot, and critters can't tunnel up through them.

Oh please put some dirt, sand or leaves on the concrete for
the chickens to move around and peck through

Concrete is a great flooring, but you will need some bedding down as well. Not only to absorb poop, but to soften the surface for their legs and feet. I had a concrete area that my birds were always jumping down on and they were always getting small sprains in their legs. Also just walking on hard surfaces all the time will bruise the pads and may lead to bumblefoot. So you might want to sprinkle something around. :-)

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X6 concrete floors are great, just need to have bedding, use wood shavings on ours.

Thanks everyone we just put some of our Clif Redden And Paul Smith breeders into the kennels today put pine shavings on the floor and about 5gallon of sand in each the Ameraucanas love it. We just took 19 baby chicks out of incubator. We are going to love this site.
