I am a new chicken owner and my favorite chicken, a buff orpington, was supposed to be female.

But here are the facts:

born in March, about 5 months old
no spurs
she/he crows (rather quietly) around 8am and usually stops when we let them out of the coop
very docile and lower in the pecking order
very big red waddles and comb

here's a pic: (the orange chicken)

I am sure you will say she's a rooster, but I just needed to check before I have to give her away.

Thanks for your help.

OMG! I thought this was one of my pictures. I have Buffs too and only one little white girl named Lady. They are identical to yours at just about the same age give or take a few days. Just too cool!

Anyway. That's a boy.

And a very handsome one at that!

I have two buff orp pullets (females) and their combs and wattles look identical to this one's. Not sure about the tail, though. I don't remember and I don't have time to run out to the coop and look right now! I look later if it will help.

Okay, I went and took a look at my buff orps (5 1/2 months old). I was wrong. Their combs and wattles are NOT that big and bright at all, and their tails don't stand up like that, either. Sorry - hopes this helps.
